Created by Armando Iannucci and Sam Mendes, The Franchise is an upcoming HBO comedy series that offers a satirical look at franchise filmmaking, especially the superhero genre. The plot revolves around an optimistic crew trying to navigate the chaotic and brutal world of superhero cinema, wondering whether they are the harbingers of a new era of filmmaking or its doom. If you want to know when The Franchise is coming out, we’ve got you covered.

Here’s all The Franchise release date information we know so far and all the details on when it is coming out.

Is there a The Franchise release date?

The Franchise’s release date could arrive sometime in fall 2024.

Armando Iannucci is a Primetime Emmy Award-winning creator of Veep and Avenue 5, while Sam Mendes won the Academy Award for Best Director for American Beauty (1999). He also directed Road to Perdition (2002), Jarhead (2005), Revolutionary Road (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015, and 1917 (2019). In August 2022, it was reported that Iannucci would continue his professional relationship with HBO, despite the cancellation of Avenue 5, with The Franchise, which would be written by him, Keith Akushie, and Jon Brown, and Mendes would make his US directorial debut with the project.

At a press event in November 2023, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max, announced the networks’ 2024 slate. The Franchise is slated to release in fall 2024, but the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike can potentially delay the premiere.

“Obviously, if it [SAG-AFTRA strike] continues, we’ve got plans,” Bloys remarked at the same event. “It would probably involve moving some things. There are some shows that I showed you that are available earlier than others. So we’ve got scenarios that we would employ. But I’m really, really hoping that we don’t have to.”

This date is an estimation based on the information we have at the time of this writing.

The cast includes Billy Magnussen as Adam, Jessica Hynes as Steph, Darren Goldstein as Pat, Lolly Adefope as Dag, Isaac Cole Powell as Bryson, Himesh Patel as Daniel, Aya Cash as Anita, and more.
