‘France’s Got Talent’ Season Suspended After Judge Accused Of Sexual Harassment

French television station M6 is suspending La France a un incroyable talent — the country’s version of America’s Got Talent — for the remainder of its season after one of the show’s judges was accused of sexual harassment.

The judge, Gilbert Rozon, is also the president of Montreal’s Just For Laughs comedy festival, and announced his resignation from that and other posts yesterday. (Watch a clip of Rozon on the talent show above).

In a statement written in French, Rozon said on Facebook yesterday, “I announce that I am leaving now my duties as chairman of the group Just For Laughs, as a commissioner for the 375th Montreal celebrations and as Vice-President of the Montreal Chamber of commerce. I am stepping down out of respect for the employees and families who work for these organizations and all our partners. I do not want to shame them.”

The post goes on to say that he is “shaken by the allegations” and will devote his time to step back and take stock. “To all those whom I may have offended throughout my life, I am sincerely sorry.”

Today, M6 suspended the remainder of the talent competition’s Season 12.

Rozon’s resignation came after comedian Guillaume Wagner announced he would no longer appear at the Just for Laughs festival due to accusations of sexual harassment being made against Rozon. Canadian media reports suggest as many as nine women have made the allegations.

CBC News also reports that Rozon pleaded guilty to sexual assault 1998.

The news organization quotes Hélène David, Quebec’s minister for the condition of women, as attributing the Rozon situation to “an international movement” started by the #MeToo Twitter reaction to allegations made against Harvey Weinstein.

“Something is happening right now in regards to a change in the culture, and we should salute this culture change,” she said
