Based on the 1951 book by Daphne du Maurier, pic follows a young Englishman who plots revenge against his cousin who he believes murdered his guardian. But his feelings become complicated and he falls for her. Notting Hill‘s Roger Michell directs, Rachel Weisz, Sam Claflin, Holliday Grainger, Iain Glen and Pierfrancesco Favino star. July 14 is a big male testosterone frame for wide releases with Fox’s War for the Planet of the Apes debuting alongside STX’s Bad Dads. Open Road also has the Bella Thorne-Patrick Schwarzenegger movie Midnight Sun.

Previous, Oct. 14:Fox Searchlight has set May 5, 2017 for the theatrical release of My Cousin Rachel, a new adaptation of the 1951 book by Daphne du Maurier starring Rachel Weisz and Sam Claflin. While May 5 isn’t crowded, there’s good reason for that: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 lands in theaters on the same day. It’s an interesting decision but one that gives audiences looking for something other than comic book, space opera fare a stark alternative.

This is the second cinematic adaptation of the classic novel of love and manipulation set on a country estate near England’s Cornish coast. 20th Century Fox previously released an adaptation in 1952 starring Richard Burton, Olivia de Havilland, and Audrey Dalton. Roger Michell is directing the 2017 take, with Kevin Loader producing and Anita Overland co-producing.
