Fox Orders Gordon Ramsay Live Food Variety Show ‘The F Word’

Fox has ordered a new series from its biggest reality star, Gordon Ramsay. The network has picked up live food variety show The F Word from the popular chef, TV personality for premiere in 2017. This marks the first series for Studio Ramsay, the independent production company Ramsay launched earlier this year, and hails from the company’s joint venture with All3Media.

Like other Ramsay shows on Fox, The F Word is based on his hit UK series of the same name. The F Word is described as a cooking competition meets variety show. Each hourlong live episode will feature Ramsay as he chats with surprise guests and VIPs in the dining room, hosts live remotes with people from across the country, and appears weekly in unique field segments with fans, foodies and culinary experts.

The UK series launched in 2005 and aired for five seasons, wrapping in 2010.

“Gordon Ramsay is not only one of the biggest names in the culinary world, but his expertise, combined with his larger-than-life personality, also make for genuine event television,” said Fox president of entertainment David Madden. “Gordon Ramsay stands tall in the line of great Fox stars, those unpredictable originals whom you simply can’t afford to miss, and The F Word could come from no one but Gordon. Let’s face it, with Gordon live on television, the phrase ‘anything can happen’ takes on a whole new meaning.”

On The F Word, foodie families from across the U.S. will battle it out in an intense, high-stakes cook-off. In addition to impressing Ramsay, each team must win over the hearts and taste buds of the diners, celebrities and VIP guests whom they’re serving. “We’re really ramping it up a notch with this new live cooking show each week, and I can’t wait for viewers to see the other surprises we have in store for each episode,” said series host Gordon Ramsay.

The F Word is produced by Studio Ramsay and All3 America. The series is executive-produced by Gordon Ramsay, Greg Lipstone, Layla Smith and Chris Brogden, who just joined Studio Ramsay as Chief Creative Officer.

The F Word stems from Ramsay’s two-year deal at Fox where he has been for more than a decade. Ramsay is behind three successful unscripted franchises at the network: Hell’s Kitchen; Kitchen Nightmares, which ended a 10-year UK/U.S. run last year; and MasterChef, whose offshoot, MasterChef Jr., was a breakout.

The broadcast networks have been looking to add more live entertainment programming. NBC recently tried it with the Neil Patrick Harris-hosted Best Time Ever.
