Fox News Tops HGTV, Nickelodeon as Most-Watched Cable Network

Fox News was the most-watched network among basic cable in both total day and primetime viewers last week, while CNN beat MSNBC among the key news demo.

Fox News averaged 2.2 million primetime viewers from May 29 through June 4, while HGTV finished second with 1.5 million viewers. MSNBC averaged 1.4 million to finish third, while USA and TBS round out the top five.

When it comes to total day viewership, Fox News averaged 1.4 million to hold off Nickelodeon’s 1.2 million. HGTV, MSNBC and CNN round out the top five, but none surpassed the 1-million viewer plateau.

Fox News also beat rivals CNN and MSNBC in the key news demo of adults age 25-54, averaging 479,000 demo viewers in primetime and 311,000 in total day. CNN beat MSNBC in both categories, averaging 373,000 primetime viewers and 261 total day viewers among the demo, compared to 329,000 and 192,000 for MSNBC.

Rupert Murdoch’s network also topped all of basic cable among total viewers for the month of May, averaging 1.4 million viewers despite a strong push from MSNBC.

Last week, Fox news programs made up 15 of the top 30 telecasts among total viewers in all of basic cable, with assorted episodes “Special Report with Bret Baier,” “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” “The Five” and “Hannity” leading the way.
