Lawrence Jones wants to meet Iowans where they are, where they meet, where they eat. The co-host of “Fox & Friends” on FOX News arrived in Iowa on Saturday to embark on a three-day trip across the state that brought him to Sioux City on Sunday, followed by Cedar Rapids on the day of the caucus, and Ankeny on Tuesday.

His stops? Diners in those communities, where anyone can stop in and listen to the three-hour show, talk to Jones, and share their opinions on the topics guiding their caucus votes.

“It’s a symbol of folks and food. We’re also talking about what’s happening in the world today. You know, when you’re at a diner, you get all different groups of people that are there,” Jones said ahead of his first stop at Horizon Family Restaurant in Sioux City.

Aside from different types of people he hopes to find, he sees each diner as representing the “heart and soul of America,” he said. “We always say that if you want to know the pulse of the country, you go to a diner.”

Jones stopped at Horizon Family Restaurant, famous for its home-cooked meals and regulars, from 6 to 10 a.m. Sunday. He wants to hear from viewers, especially in farming communities, to find out how people are feeling in the moment. “How they’re feeling at the moment, how life at the moment is, that’s how they’re going to vote. And especially with the weather, you got to be really upset to get out and vote.”

Monday takes him to Lucky’s on 16th In the heart of the Czech Village in Cedar Rapids. The diner holds a monthly Czech dinner as well as a hot beef special on Wednesdays. After the caucus wraps up, Jones heads to the newest location of the Breakfast Club in Ankeny on Tuesday.

Expect Jones to order his favorite dish, biscuits and gravy, and if permitted, he’ll step into the kitchen to cook with the staff. In recent “Fox & Friends” segments, he’s made scrambled eggs, pancakes, and specials of the house.

“Food, I think, will solve the world’s problems if people just sit down and eat together,” Jones said. “A lot of times in the diners, people that know each other and maybe even are supporting different candidates will sit amongst each other and develop friendships over that meal.”
