Fox & Fig to close, leaving a gap for vegan cuisine in Savannah

After seven years in business, plant-based cafe Fox & Fig announced it will be permanently shutting its doors.

News of the closure was posted on a sign on the cafe's door:

"Fox and Fig will also be closing permanently on Dec. 1, 2023. We have greatly appreciated all of your love and support over the years."

There is no confirmation yet on the cause of the closure, but a Reddit post in a Savannah community thread pointed toward new owners. Jennifer Jenkins currently owns Foxy Loxy Print Gallery & Café, The Coffee Fox, Fox & Fig, and Henny Penny Art Space & Café.

Users also claimed that "employees were given less than two weeks notice to find new jobs right before the holidays and construction on the building will take at least a month if employees do wish to stay."

In late July, Fox & Fig was one of three Foxy Family cafes involved in labor unrest. Former employees presented a demand letter for better pay and improved grievance processes.

The Habersham Street restaurant opened in 2016 and immediately filled a gap in Savannah's restaurant scene, becoming the city's only fully vegan restaurant.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details become available.
