Fox Buys Legal Drama Produced By Neal Baer
Fox has put in development a legal drama from producer Neal Baer and up-and-coming writer Robert Specland. 20th Century Fox TV, where Baer has a pod deal, is the studio.
Written by Specland based on an idea he developed with Baer, the untitled Verdict project is set in the San Francisco Bay Area. It centers on two attorneys from opposite upbringings facing off on opposite sides of the courtroom, and a young woman between them — an ex-con who joins the law firm in the hopes of putting her troubled past behind her. It explores the many shades of grey in the legal system and keeps you guessing, down to the last minute of each episode, letting the viewer be the judge before the verdict is revealed.
Specland executive produces alongside Baer via his Baer Bones Productions, and Baer Bones’ Jessica Shulman.
Baer previously served as showrunner on NBC’s ER; on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU for 11 seasons; and on CBS’ Under the Dome for its entire run. He is repped by UTA.
Specland got his start in feature writing with his Black List script Nyad, a biopic based on the true story about swimmer Diana Nyad. Last broadcast development season, Specland wrote crime drama script Crooked for Fox with producer Peter Horton. He is repped by UTA, Peter Dealbert of Pacific View Management and Toczek Suddelson.
