Fourth of July festivities are all set for Main Street in Hendersonville

For this year's Fourth of July celebration in downtown Hendersonville, Henderson County Tourism Development Authority, Hendersonville Visitors Center and Henderson County Parks and Recreation have teamed up once again to provide everyone plenty of festivities to celebrate the anniversary of the nation's independence.

Thanks to the holiday being on a Monday, all events will be held on the actual July 4 holiday this year, according to a press releases from the city and also from Henderson County Parks and Recreation.

Monday's activities will conclude with a fireworks show put on by the Henderson County Tourism Development Authority and also Henderson County Parks and Recreation. The show, which has a launch site off South Grove Street, will begin at dusk (around 9:15-9:30 p.m.). To get a good idea where the fireworks will be in the sky, a giant balloon will be launched the morning of the Fourth to signify the visibility of the fireworks show.

Prior to the fireworks, the celebration will begin with the annual Fourth of July Parade, which is put on by the Hendersonville Merchants and Business Association. The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the route the same as last year, running from Caswell Street to Sixth Avenue, according to a press release.

The parade will run from South to North, and spectators should line Main Street from Caswell Street to Sixth Avenue for viewing. No parking will be allowed on Main Street after 6 a.m. Monday. According to the release, Main Street from its southern intersection with King Street to Sixth Avenue will close at approximately 9 a.m. Traffic will still be able to traverse the avenues until approximately 10:15 a.m. when they will close in preparation for the 10:30 a.m. parade start.

The avenues and Main Street from Third Avenue to Sixth Avenue will reopen as the last entry progresses along the parade route. The Main Street blocks from Caswell to Third Avenue will remain closed in preparation for the Fourth of July Concert and the fireworks show, hosted by the Hendersonville Visitor Center and Henderson County Parks and Recreation.

Games, face painting, inflatables, food trucks and more will be available starting at 5 p.m. on Main Street, from Third Avenue to Allen Street.

Henderson County Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting bluegrass concerts, featuring Lonesome Road Band from 5-6:30 p.m. and Supper Break from 7-9 p.m. in front of the Historic Courthouse. At the Hendersonville Visitor Center Stage, the Henderson County Tourism Development Authority will host BSE Band from 7-9:30 p.m.

Spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

According to the release, In case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed for an hour, and if the weather doesn’t improve by 6 p.m., it will be canceled. No alcoholic beverages, backpacks or coolers are allowed.

NOTICE OF INDEPENDENCE DAY CLOSURES

CITY OFFICES CLOSED

The City of Hendersonville government offices will be closed on Monday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Garbage, recycling and brush collection for City of Hendersonville customers will not be taking place July 4, due to the City's Independence Day holiday schedule. According to a news release, collection for Monday customers will be delayed by one week with collection resuming on Monday, July 11. Any extra bagged garbage from Monday customers will be picked up on July 11. For water/sewer issues occurring on July 4, use the afterhours number at (828) 891-7779.

COUNTY OFFICES CLOSED

According to a press release, Henderson County local government offices and agencies, including the Public Library, Animal Services (Animal Shelter), Solid Waste (Transfer Station and Convenience Center) and the Henderson County Courthouse will be closed July 4 in observance of Independence Day.

All Henderson County parks are open 365 days a year.

The delivery of emergency services will not be disrupted. All Henderson County local government offices and agencies, including the Public Library, Animal Services, Solid Waste, and the Henderson County Courthouse will reopen and resume normal operating hours on Tuesday, July 5.
