A local beauty business got a makeover in the sendoff of HGTV’s Indianapolis-based “Good Bones” reality remodeling show.

On the episode that aired Tuesday, Sept. 12 the Two Chicks and a Hammer renovation team, headed by Indy's Mina Starsiak Hawk, remodeled the Fountain Square home of OVA Lofts, which houses OVA Brands, various beauty services and a bridal suite-event space.

During the show, Starsiak helps her friend, OVA Lofts founder Alysse Popov, convert the historic Fountain Square home into a salon.

“I thought they did amazing. I absolutely loved the film crew,” Popov said. “That was 12 months of renovations and pre-development and construction; and they boiled all that down into 30 minutes of the show. They were able to capture a lot.”

The exposure is already starting to benefit the business, with inquiries from stylists looking to work out of the space and customers calling to book suites on Wednesday morning.

She'd long wanted a building from which to run her beauty brand, and to host other businesses as well.

"They plan to add a coffee shop into the renovation, but things could turn ugly when the health department steps in with other ideas," the show's preview teases, and IndyStar isn't posting spoilers.

Popov started in the beauty business in 2016, providing lash extensions and microblading.

She partnered with family investment firm Dream Big Group out of Louisiana to open OVA Lofts, which has individual private beauty suites, hair booths and a walk-up coffee and tea bar.

Popov had approached Starsiak Hawk, one of her clients, with the prospect of renovating the building, and got more than she'd anticipated.

“She said, ‘I'll actually do you one better.  What if we put it on the show?'” Popov said.

OVA Lofts got the design guidance at no cost; but Popov and her partners put about $500,000 into the project.

OVA Lofts hosted its grand opening at 1317 Prospect St. in August.

This week’s episode is among the last for the TV series; after eight seasons that saw Starsiak Hawk and her mother, Karen Laine, buying dilapidated places, and renovating them.

If you missed the episode, titled "Falling Head Ova Heels in Fountain Square," the show will air several times in coming days, including Sept. 19, Oct. 24 and Oct. 28, according to hgtv.com.
