Former Statesman building to be temporary home to art ‘experiences’

AUSTIN (KXAN) — For the first time in years, people will be welcome again at the former home of Austin’s daily newspaper. The former Austin American-Statesman building in south Austin will host “Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience” and “Beyond Monet: The Immersive Experience.”

According to a press release about the event, moving versions of paintings by the two famed artists are projected onto walls and the ground.

The building has been vacant since 2021. The location is right off the Congress bridge, a popular spot where people watch the bats come out. The newspaper moved into a new facility in southeast Austin. The future of the site is now in question after a judge ruled against the city’s funding plan for it.

This isn’t the first time the Beyond Van Gogh event came to Austin. It previously was held at the Circuit of the Americas.

Tickets go on sale Friday. The shows will run from May 31 to Sept. 13. Prices range from about $27 to $80 apiece.
