Former Professional Wrestler Billy Jack Haynes Arrested in Connection with Wife's Death

A former professional wrestler was arrested in connection with his wife’s murder, police in Portland, Ore., say.

William Haynes, 70, who wrestled in the World Wrestling Federation under the name Billy Jack Haynes in the 1980s, was taken into custody at a hospital and his charges will be released once he is booked into jail, police say.

On Thursday, police responded to a report of a shooting inside a home in the Lents neighborhood of Portland, the city’s police department says. Janette Becraft, 85, Haynes’ wife, was identified as the victim.

After responding to the scene, police say Haynes was at the home and did not cooperate with responding officers. Police say Haynes is now hospitalized due to a medical condition not related to the homicide or his encounter with police.

A neighbor told KPTV that Becraft had been suffering from dementia prior to her death.

It is not immediately clear if Haynes has retained an attorney.

Haynes wrestled for the World Wrestling Federation, now known as WWE, from 1986 to 1988, and notably faced off against Hercules Hernandez at WrestleMania III.
