Former NFL player Frank Wycheck, who played for the Tennessee Titans, died on Saturday. He was 52 years old.

"It is with great sadness that the family of Frank Wycheck has confirmed his death," a statement from the family read. "Born Frank John Wycheck on October 14, 1971, he passed away in his home on Saturday, December 8, 2023 at the age of 52.

"At this time, it appears Wycheck fell inside his Chattanooga, TN home and hit his head on Saturday morning. He was found unresponsive that afternoon," the statement read. Wycheck did have lingering head issues sustained in his football career.

When in the NFL, Wycheck caught 482 passes for 4,958 yards and 27 touchdowns for the Oilers/Titans franchise. He was voted to the Pro Bowl three times, in 1998, 1999, and 2000.

The Washington Oilers selected Wycheck in the sixth round of the 1993 draft out of Maryland, but they released him in 1995.

Wycheck is best known for one of the most famous plays in NFL history, the "Music City Miracle," which took place on January 8, 2000, at the end of an AFC wild-card playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills had taken a 16-15 lead on a field goal with 16 seconds remaining in the playoff game. On the kickoff return, Wycheck threw a lateral pass across the field to wide receiver/kick returner Kevin Dyson. Dyson then ran 75 yards to score the winning touchdown.

"The family, per his wishes, plans to work with experts for on-going brain injury (TB) and CTE research," the statement read.

The statement concludes with, "The Wycheck family appreciates the love and support they've received, but asks the public to please respect their privacy during this difficult time."

Wycheck is survived by two daughters, Deanna and Madison and his grandchildren, Leo, Stevie and August.
