Darby Cerbo – a former NFL cheerleader for the Arizona Cardinals – has a tradition with her teammates that whenever anyone from their team gets married they dance at that person's wedding.

So when it came time for Darby, 31, to walk down the aisle on Sept. 19, 2022, and marry her fiancé Samuel Cerbo, she tells PEOPLE she took the initiative to keep the tradition alive. She reached out to her teammate, Savannah Swaine, to choreograph a full routine. Afterward, Swaine sent it out to 28 team members in a video to learn.

Before the wedding, which took place in Morrison, Colorado, the group gathered for one quick rehearsal in Arizona to set formations. Then, it was go time.

"I did not tell anyone it would be happening. I am sure my husband and my teammates plus ones had an idea as we often do this at weddings," Darby, who cheered for the Cardinals for 5 seasons from 2016 to 2020, says. "It was a 100% surprise to everyone there, my teammates included, that I was switching dresses and shoes for the dance. It was also a surprise to everyone that my dad joined!"

After the wedding, the former cheerleading captain uploaded a video of the executed dance from her special day on TikTok, which has since gone viral, garnering over 19.9 million views.

The dance starts with a song from Beyoncé and also includes "Fireman" by Lil Wayne which Darby says is a tribute to her husband Sam who is a firefighter. Near the end of the dance, Darby explains how her dad also joined the cheerleaders for the "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC.

"Growing up my dad coached my little league sports teams and we would run out before each dance dancing to the song 'Thunderstruck,' " she says. "He became the best dance dad after sports ended attending all of my events and eventually all of my games cheering in the NFL. All of my cheer friends from the Cardinals knew my dad so we wanted him to join in at the end which was a huge surprise to everyone."

"I was just so excited when we were doing the dance," Darby adds. "I was thinking about how your wedding is the only time that every single person from all different walks of life who you love the most is in the same room and how special that is!"

Once the dance finished Darby explains how the song "Pump It Up" by Endor came on to get everyone out on the dance floor. She also adds how at the same time the catering company brought out s'mores and pizza to the dance floor.

"At Sam’s bachelor party, this was the song they listened to the entire time. It is also a song all of his East Coast friends listen to so it was a great way to get everyone involved!" she says.

Now, with the wedding over a year ago, Darby says it's been so fun to be able to reminisce on her special day through watching the TikTok video.

"A lot of these friends and family had never been able to see me perform in person before and so it was fun for them to be able to experience a little taste of what I did in the NFL," she says. "I could also see how happy and excited everyone was which in turn made me really happy and excited."
