Former NBA Star Kenyon Martin Fights to Lower Child Support Payments to Reflect His Post-NBA Income

Kenyon Martin is arguing he should not have to pay the same amount of child support as he did when he played in the NBA and wants the amount to be more in line with his current financial situation.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Martin filed documents as part of his child support case with his ex, Heather Martin. The couple had three children together, two of which are still minors: 16-year-old Cierra and 14-year-old Kamron.

The two sides reached an agreement back in 2007 that called for Kenyon to pay $3,000 a month in child support, which Kenyon wants to revise based on his current income.

The former NBA star claims his projected income for 2019 is $209,782 and says he will earn another $100,000 from his gig as a coach in the Big 3 Basketball league.

The Martins' support agreement also called for Kenyon to make several other payments that fell under the designation of "additional child support."

The agreement stated that Kenyon was to pay for a new car for Heather every three years, her credit card up to $7,000 every month, private school for the kids, a nanny, and other various expenses.

He is asking for all of those payments to stop.

Kenyon says his income has "precipitously dropped" since his playing career ended in 2015. According to Bleacher Report, Kenyon earned over $108 million in his career.

He says he is aware that his current expenses are "ridiculously high" and he can no longer afford them. Kenyon states that he is in the process of selling his home in Calabasas and moving to Atlanta "where the cost of living is cheaper because as is clear, I cannot afford to continue in the manner that I have."

Kenyon also points out that he pays $3,181 per month for another daughter and also has two children with his current wife, Shakira.

A hearing on Martin's request has been scheduled for October 1.
