Former Middle School Teacher Accused of Sexually Abusing Boy in Classroom, Giving Him Alcohol: Police

Police say a former student came forward claiming that when he was 14, Melissa Curtis, 31, sexually abused him

A former middle school teacher in Maryland has been arrested on allegations she sexually abused a student more than 20 times in 2015 — and police believe there may be more possible victims.

Melissa Marie Curtis, 31, of Upper Marlboro, is accused of engaging in sex acts with a former student when he was a minor, the Montgomery County Police Department said in a statement.

On Oct. 5, the MCPD’s Special Victims Investigations Division began investigating the allegations after the alleged victim, now an adult, came forward to authorities.

He claimed that the abuse began in 2015 when Curtis was 22 and he was a 14-year-old 8th grade student at Montgomery Village Middle School, where she was a teacher, the MCPD said in a statement.

The incidents went on for several months at different locations including the school and her vehicle, charging documents claim, WTOP reports.

Charging documents obtained by DC News Now allege that the student claimed Curtis sexually abused him in a classroom, in a car and at her mother's home and at his house. The documents say the student claimed she gave him alcohol and marijuana, per the outlet.

The alleged victim claimed in the charging documents that Curtis had sex with him more than 20 times, DC News Now reports.

On Oct. 31, authorities issued a warrant for Curtis’s arrest, charging her with sexual abuse of a minor and multiple counts of third and fourth-degree sexual offenses.

Curtis had been a teacher for approximately two years in Montgomery County and had also taught at Lakelands Park Middle School.

Curtis turned herself in on Tuesday, November 7, and is currently awaiting a bond hearing.

Special Victims Investigations Division detectives suspect that there may be additional possible victims and would like to speak with them. Detectives encourage potential victims to call 240-773-5400.
