‘Deadliest Catch’ Former Producer Killed: Suspect Found Dead In Car In West L.A. – Update
WRITETHRU, 6:20 PM: Police have found their suspect in the Pasadena shooting death of former Deadliest Catch producer Joseph McMahon. The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department reported that the suspect was found dead in his car with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Los Angeles Police Department detectives located the car in the West Los Angeles Division area. The name of the suspect, who the LASD said is a man about 24 years old, has not been released pending notification of next of kin, police said.
McMahon, a onetime associate producer on Discovery Channel’s flagship reality series Deadliest Catch, was shot and killed in front of his house early Friday morning in Pasadena, CA. He was 24.
“We are heartsick about this tragedy — our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and to all that knew and worked with him,” Discovery said in a statement this morning.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department confirmed it was McMahon this afternoon and corrected his age, which they originally reported was 25. It said there is no suspect information and the investigation is ongoing.
According to the LASD, deputies responded to a call at the 3600 block of Yorkshire Road and found McMahon with multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene. Family members told local station CBS2 News that McMahon heard a noise outside and had gone to investigate.
According to IMDb, McMahon was an associate producer on nine episodes of Deadliest Catch in 2013, when it was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality Program, a category it won in 2011. The Original Productions series was renewed for Season 12 a few episodes into its 11th season, which premiered in April to 4.03 million viewers in Live+3 ratings.
“The entire Original Productions family is heartbroken with this news,” said Philip D. Segal, CEO and EP at Original Productions. “Our thoughts and prayers are for the McMahon family.”
