The cause of death of former child actor Matthew Mindler has been revealed.

The college student, who was best for his work opposite Paul Rudd in the 2011 comedy “Our Idiot Brother,” died from complications of sodium nitrate toxicity, according to a Lancaster County coroner’s report obtained by multiple outlets.

Mindler’s manner of death had previously been determined as a suicide, the coroner’s office previously confirmed to NBC News.

The Millersville University freshman’s mother reportedly told TMZ that after going through her son’s recent search history, she discovered that he had researched the chemical compound as it pertained to suicide and had purchased it online.

News of Mindler’s cause of death comes nearly seven weeks after he was found deceased in Manor Township, Penn., near his new school.

Millersville’s president, Daniel A. Wubah, announced the sad news in a press release shared to social media, offering “thoughts of comfort and peace” to the teen’s loved ones and encouraging the campus community to support one another during this difficult time.

Days earlier, school officials announced Mindler’s disappearance. A missing person’s report had filed earlier in the week after Mindler did not return to his dorm or return calls and messages from his family. Authorities began an official search the following morning.

According to the university, the teen went to the first two days of his fall semester classes, but had not been present since.

In addition to his role as River in “Our Idiot Brother,” Mindler has appeared on “As The World Turns” and “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.”
