In Talks To Join The MCU

In an exciting bit of casting news, Christian Bale is allegedly in talks to join Taika Waititi's follow up to Thor: Ragnarok, Thor: Love And Thunder.

This would obviously not be the first time Bale has been in a superhero franchise, having been the star of Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise. While the deal isn't 100% set yet, it looks likely that Bale will be making the jump from DC to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now the question remains as to who the recent Golden Globe nominee will be playing.

Is He Beta Ray Bill?

People on Twitter seem to think that he could be playing the Thor character Beta Ray Bill, tweeting out their approval and causing "Beta Ray Bill" to trend. Marvel fans are pretty hyped about this possibility.

"Christian Bale can do absolutely anything, therefore he can play a horse faced man. Cast this man as Beta Ray Bill!"

"give us bale as beta ray bill, you cowards"

"I swear if he's Beta Ray Bill: I'm going to see this movie every night for a month"

There was even a Beta Ray Bill Easter egg in Avengers: Endgame, so this isn't outside of the realm of possibility.

Previously Wasn't Interested

This would be an interesting turn of events for Bale, who has previously expressed disinterest in returning to a superhero role in the past. He told Collider while he was promoting The Promise in 2017:

"No, I'm not interested in doing that. I've never seen -- I'm trying to think if that's correct, I think I'm actually correct, I can't remember a single superhero film that I've ever watched. Apart from the ones I made and like, the Christopher Reeve Superman films."

Harsh words, Bruce Wayne! Maybe the allure of Taika Waititi as the director and an all star cast was enough to lure him back to the world of superpowers and spandex.

He Hasn't Seen A Marvel Film

He doubled down in 2018 while he was on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, admitting that he hadn't seen Ben Affleck's turn as Batman.

"I have not (seen Affleck's Batman yet). Yes, I’m interested (in seeing it), my son seemed like he was really interested, but then I realized he just wanted to see the trailer and that was it – I tend to go see films that (my kids) want to see. I have to confess I’m not a huge superhero film fan. People seem surprised at that, I don’t know why. I’ve not seen any of the Avengers films or any of those films at all. I hear they’re very good, but I’m quite happy just hearing they’re very good."

Beta Ray Bill would probably be a voice role similar to Bradley Cooper's Rocket, so maybe that (if that is indeed the character he would play) appealed to Bale instead of the rigorous workouts and spandex suits.
