Reality TV certainly isn’t always rooted in honesty. But one reality TV personality, in particular, has been keeping it real lately, and we love her for it. Former Bachelorette lead Hannah Brown admits she’s feeling unhappy at times, and really, who could blame her? Brown had a tumultuous season on the Bachelorette, to say the least. But through it all, and especially in her post-Bachelorette life, she has remained honest and open about her self-image and emotions.
The former Bachelorette lead took to Instagram on Monday and shared in a Story just how she has been coping with her newfound fame, independent life and continued questions from her season — the biggest being how she’s doing. “A lot of people ask me, ‘are you happy?’ these days. And to be honest I hate that question, because I’m not some of the time,” Brown wrote. “Nothing about some of the circumstances I went through recently made me happy.”

She then added, “I have moments of happy, but happiness is fleeting.” Brown’s season showcased a highly publicized break-up between her and Jed Wyatt, from whom she accepted a proposal at the end of the ABC reality series. As we all know now, it turns out that Wyatt had continued a relationship with his girlfriend, Haley prior to going on the show, and it was that secret that helped lead to the demise of their engagement.
Post-season, Brown did spend some time with Tyler Cameron, her season’s runner-up. Since then, however Cameron has been spending time with model Gigi Hadid in New York City. And throughout it all, Brown has been incredibly transparent about how she’s doing.
“Honest policy: I’m struggling. Life is so different. Since last August, I’ve been a pageant queen, a Bachelor contestant, and the Bachelorette,” Brown shared in a previous post. It’s that kind of vulnerability and transformation, as one of the youngest Bachelorette leads in the show’s history, that made her a favorite among fans. Now that she’ll be trading roses for dance shoes in the next season of Dancing With the Stars, we’ll be right there continuing to cheer her on.
