Jan. 26—TUPELO — A former "American Idol" contestant and frequent Grand Ole Opry performer Janelle Arthur will be featured in Link Centre's February Monthly Music Mix show next Saturday.

The Oliver Springs, Tennessee, native began her professional career at 8 years old, portraying a young Dolly Parton in the theme park show "Paradise Road." Two decades later, Parton was featured on Arthur's single, "Hand Me Downs," the same year she signed her first record deal with Black Sheep Label Group.

After spending years onstage in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in her youth, she moved to Nashville at 20 years old to focus on songwriting.

Months later, she tried out for "American Idol" and didn't make the show. The second time around, she earned a spot in the top 60. Despite being eliminated, she was asked to join other contestants for an Armed Forces Entertainment tour spanning England to Kuwait. She was the only contestant outside of the top 24 to be invited to the tour.

The next year, she was invited back into the national spotlight where she made the top five on the 12th season of "American Idol."

After the show, she was cast in the faith-based movie "Runnin' from My Roots" alongside Aaron O'Connell, Janine Turner, Deana Carter, and Neal McCoy.

Songs like "Hand Me Downs," "What Would Dolly Do," and "Country Music Will Never Die" showcase Arthur's voice and timeless style.

The upcoming Link Centre show is one that fans of country music and honest songwriting are sure to enjoy.
