Ford Ranger Raptor is real, and it's coming in 2018
Guys, it's really coming. Ford Australia just released a video of the new Ranger Raptor ripping across dusty dirt roads in the Australian Outback. While we've seen a number of spy shots, this confirms that Ford is indeed deep into the development of a smaller, more nimble Raptor. Simply put, the truck looks awesome kicking up dust and flying off jumps. We can't wait to see the full production version, even if it won't hit the U.S. for a couple of years.
While we don't have any details, it looks just as wild as the big daddy F-150 Raptor. The Ranger Raptor is likely to follow the same ethos, focusing on speed and trail running as opposed to low-speed rock crawling. We can't see much through the camouflage, but expect a wider track, wider fenders and a new grille. The Ranger Raptor should pack upgraded suspension and more aggressive tires. There's no word as to what rests under the hood, but Ford has a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 that would provide plenty of oomph.
The video says the Ranger Raptor is coming in 2018, meaning it's based off the current global model that we drove in New Zealand. The Ranger is returning to the U.S. in 2019, but it's unclear if we'll get the global truck or an all-new model. Either way, look for a Ranger Raptor to soon follow. We can't wait.
