A food hall that 'goes beyond' aims to bring 12 new restaurants to downtown Chandler

Dr. AJ Chandler Park (rendering here), is less than a mile from the proposed .36-acre food hall space on the southwest corner of Chicago and Oregon streets.

Chandler could soon be home to a new food hall. The proposed project would house six to 12 restaurants and also function as an entertainment and event space.

The city council voted on July 20 to tentatively allow the .36-acre space on the southwest corner of Chicago and Oregon streets to be purchased and developed by JEMBJACD, LLC.

"Unless you have visited a food hall in another state similar to what we are creating, to truly grasp the essence of what we offer, you need to experience it firsthand, as it goes beyond anything found in a conventional mall food court,” said Jeremy McClymonds, a development partner, in a press release.

What to expect at the new Chandler food hall

McClymonds told The Arizona Republic that the Chandler food hall was inspired by the Avanti food hall in Denver and the Assembly Food Hall in Nashville.

The vibe of the food hall will change throughout the day to accommodate all types of residents, McClymonds said. There will be a main bar serving cocktails and beer with occasional live music to make it a nightlife hangout. During the day, they hope the multiple restaurant options will make it a fun and family-friendly dining destination, especially for parents, as kids don't always agree on a restaurant.

"These are different types of restaurants than what you would see in like, a mall food court," said Kim Moyers, cultural development director for the city of Chandler. "It's something unique and different. It'll bring a lot of local residents in and it's very community oriented."

Neither the name of the food hall nor any of the proposed restaurants have been announced yet, but the developer expects to reveal that information soon.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2024, with the food hall opening to the public by the end of next year.
