The season premieres Oct. 7 with Rodrigo y Gabriela featuring the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Statesman music writer Deborah Sengupta Stith was at the taping on July 7. From her review:

The guitar artistry of Rodrigo Y Gabriela defies comprehension. Their music expands the mind, explodes it and then, with intricate finger patterns that weave magic and mystery, reconstructs it. In the process, they shift everything you thought you knew about what a guitarist can be.

The Mexico City natives closed out the North American leg of their current tour with an “Austin City Limits” taping on Friday night. Joined by an ensemble of over 30 players from the Austin Symphony Orchestra, they led a rapt audience on an exhilarating thrill ride of astounding instrumental prowess.

The performance was “history in the making,” executive producer Terry Likona told the crowd at the top of the show. It was ASO’s first appearance on the storied television show, which has been bringing the sound of Austin to the world for 49 years.

About the Foo Fighters: When is that taping and how can I attend?

This will be the Foos third taping. The first, in 2008 (premiering in 2009), was at "ACL's" original Austin PBS Studio 6A, and the second in 2014 at ACL Live. The band was scheduled to tape their third appearance in April 2022, but that was canceled after the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. The 2014 taping (the episode premiered in 2015) was an epic three hours that included special guests Gary Clark Jr. and Jimmie Vaughan.

The Foo Fighters are headlining both Saturdays of the Austin City Limits Music Festival, which is Oct. 6-8 and 13-15. They will tape "Austin City Limits" on Thursday, Oct. 12.

Public ticket giveaways for the tapings, held at ACL Live, will be announced via the program's website and social media accounts about a week before each taping.
