FOND DU LAC — If you enjoy the work of British musicians, you'll probably enjoy a performance by The Brit Pack, coming to the Thrasher in Green Lake.

Those who would like to sample wine and beer (and help raise funds) should check out the Rotary Club's Wines Around the World or Ripon's Rhythm & Brews.

Here are five can’t-miss events happening in the community this week.

1. Brit Pack performance offers blend of popular British musicians

The Brit Pack will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake.

Formed in 2011 by British session musicians based in NYC, the show offers a blend of British music, including tunes by The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen, David Bowie, Elton John, The Who, Oasis, Radiohead, The Police, Amy Winehouse and many more.

Band members include Matt Nakoa (vocals, guitar, keys), Mark Johnson (guitar, vocals), Bryan Percivall (bass) and Will Haywood Smith (drums). The group has performed with artists such as Paul McCartney, Elton John, Britney Spears and many others.

2. Rotary Club's wine sampling event set for Oct. 14

The Fond du Lac Morning Rotary Club will host its 31st Wine Around the World event at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at Marian University Stayer Center. More than 100 wines will be available to sample, along with more than 30 beers.

A silent auction will also be featured with items that include vacation packages, sports outings and artwork, a 50/50 cash prize raffle, hors d’oeuvres and more.

General admission tickets are $75 at hometownticket.com.

Proceeds benefit the Read 4 Life program, which supports early readers. Eight books are provided to first-grade classrooms in Fond du Lac Public Schools. Books are shared and discussed with students. Students are asked to choose their favorite of the eight donated books. During a celebration at the end of the year, students receive a copy of their favorite book along with a Read 4 Life T-shirt and backpack.

3. Tickets available now for Ripon's Rhythm & Brews event

The Rhythm & Brews Craft Beer Celebration will be Oct. 13 in downtown Ripon. The event, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., will offer craft beer sampling at participating businesses.

Ripon Rhythm & Brews is a chance to support and promote breweries throughout Wisconsin and raise funds to support downtown Ripon’s revitalization program. Entertainment includes free live music at Knuth Brewing Company, The Pit Stop and The Public House.

Beverages will be offered from more than 20 Wisconsin breweries, providing samples of longstanding favorites as well as limited releases. Attendees will have the chance to sample up to 14 specialty seasonal craft brews during the event.

4. Public welcome to Fall Dog Agility Trials at Kennel Club

Fond du Lac County Kennel Club will hold its Fall Dog Agility Trials Oct. 14 and 15 at the club, N5480 Deneveu Lane, Fond du Lac. The public is welcome to attend.

The trials will be held outdoors from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days. They are AKC-sanctioned.

Agility demonstrates teamwork through a timed obstacle course of jumps, tunnels and weaves poles. There is ample space for two agility courses to run simultaneously.

5. Thelma film series features 'Arsenic & Old Lace' Oct. 19

Arsenic & Old Lace” is the next movie to be shown as part of the Thelma Film Series. The movie will be show at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, 51 Sheboygan St., Fond du Lac.

Movie-goers can enjoy special drinks and popcorn. A cash bar and other snacks also will be available. All ages are welcome.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger. Tickets can be purchased in advance at thelmaarts.org/pages/events or at the door.
