Fond du Lac's can't-miss events include live music, Mutt Strutt and warbird rides

FOND DU LAC - Attend unique music performances such as the Cedar Ridge Sessions or the "American Idiot" musical.

You can help raise funds for Sandi Paws Rescue during the Mutt Strutt fundraiser, or maybe you'd like to take a ride in a war plane.

Here are five can't-miss events happening in the community this week.

1. Cedar Ridge Sessions offer three nights of music

Cedar Ridge Sessions, a three-day music series, will be held July 27 to 29 at W14471 Dartford Road, Ripon.

The series is presented by Thrasher Opera House. Concerts start at 6 p.m. each day.

This year’s performers will include folk artists Adrian + Meredith, Dig Deep and Foxgloves.

Tickets for the Cedar Ridge Sessions are $35 per night or $90 for all three nights and are available at thrasheroperahouse.com or 920-294-4279.

2. Award-winning musical 'American Idiot' set at Thelma

Ghostlight Theater Company will present the musical “American Idiot” July 21 to 23 at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, 51 Sheboygan St.

The show includes every song from Green Day’s album "American Idiot" as well as several songs from its follow-up release, "21st Century Breakdown." “American Idiot” is a two-time Tony Award winner. It features little dialogue and instead relies on the lyrics to tell the story.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. July 21; 2 and 7 p.m. July 22; and 2 p.m. July 23. It is intended for mature audiences. Tickets are $22 at thelmaarts.org.

3. Mutt Strutt raises funds for Sandi Paws Rescue

Sandi Paws Rescue will present its fifth annual Mutt Strutt from 7 a.m. to noon July 22 at Lakeside Park – Oven Island, 555 N. Park Ave.

Fond du Lac parks are dog friendly. There will be water dishes set up on the route. If you are not a pet owner and you want to walk/run with a pup, Sandi Paws can set that up. All runners and walkers are welcome. This event is timed and awards will follow.

Packet pick-up will start at 7 a.m. with the race at 8 a.m. Registration is $25 at runsignup.com.

4. Take a ride in a warbird from Fond du Lac airport

Ride the Airbase Georgia Warbirds July 26 to 29 from the Fond du Lac County Airport. Rides are offered between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.

The warbirds will be on display at AirVenture 2023 including the Corsair, Mustang and Dauntless. The P-51 Mustang and the SBD Dauntless will be on display July 24 and 25 in Oshkosh, then will transfer to Fond du Lac County Airport to offer rides July 26 to 29. The airport is at 260 S. Rolling Meadows Drive.

5. Buttermilk Festival's family night is July 26

The Buttermilk Festival will host family night from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. July 26 at Wifler Performance Center in Buttermilk Creek Park.

Special guest is flute soloist Macallan Miller (a Wifler Scholarship winner). Eighth-grade students will play along with the Symphonic Band on a march. There also will be a Teddy Bear Parade, face-painting, and a conducting contest for elementary school children.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. Food concessions will be available for purchase. Take lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
