Fond du Lac's can't-miss events include Race the Lake and PawPalooza fundraiser

FOND DU LAC - On tap this week in the Fond du Lac area is a beer and seltzer crawl and the annual Race the Lake event.

There's also a chance to help raise funds for the Fond du Lac Humane Society during PawPalooza.

Here are five can’t-miss events happening in the community this week.

1. All riders welcome to Race the Lake event Aug. 20

The annual Race the Lake will be held Aug. 20. The race begins and ends at Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac, but the route takes riders through Oshkosh, Neenah, Menasha, Appleton, Calumetville, Marytown and more, all along Lake Winnebago.

This is the 15th year of the 88-mile race/ride around Lake Winnebago. It is enjoyed by all abilities from professional to beginning cyclists.

Registration and packet pickup will be from noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 19 at Lakeside Park, 158 E. Harbor Drive. Race-day registration will be open 4:15 to 5:30 a.m. The fat bikes race starts at 5:30 a.m. with the first wave beginning at 5:45 a.m. The course will close at 2:30 p.m.

2. Sample beer and seltzers during downtown crawl

A Beer and Seltzer Crawl will turn downtown Fond du Lac businesses into tasting rooms. From 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 18, participants may sample beers, seltzers or non-alcoholic beverages from their souvenir glass.

Attendees must be 21 or older to participate. An ID is required at check-in, so all ticket-holders must be present. Check in between 2 and 6 p.m. at 131 S. Main St.

Participants will be given a lanyard and punch card along with a souvenir glass and a map of participating businesses. Many locations on the route will also have food available to sample or purchase.

3. PawPalooza event includes vendor fair, wine, music

The third Annual PawPalooza event is set for Aug. 19 and will raise funds for the Fond du Lac Humane Society. It will take place noon to 6 p.m. at Ziegler Winery, W3953 Winnebago Heights, Malone.

Attractions include a vendor/craft fair, a cornhole tournament, wine tasting, carriage rides, live music, food and raffles. The event will take place rain or shine.

The Julio Reyes Pop Trio will play at 12:30 p.m. with The Abler Boys starting at 4 p.m.

4. Classic Car Day set Aug. 19 at Ledgerock Distillery

The Ledgerock Annual Classic Car Day will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 19 at the distillery, N5287 Grandview Road, Fond du Lac.

Admission is free for spectators. Registration for the car show begins at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $5 with a cash drawing at 3 p.m. There will be live music from noon to 3 p.m. and food will be available for purchase.

The event is run by the Campbellsport FFA Alumni to raise funds for the group.

5. Take a group ride to Ripon with Fond du Lac Cyclery

Fond du Lac Cyclery will host a “Ride to Ripon” from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 19.

The group will start out from the Mascoutin Trailhead off Rolling Meadows Drive and head to Ripon. The lunch stop will be at Knuth Brewing Company.

Riders can ride back to Fond du Lac or arrange to be picked up in Ripon.

There is no fee to ride with the group, but an RSVP is appreciated at fb.me/e/2NIW5eVOf.
