PLYMOUTH — Independent folk singer-songwriters Alexa Rose and Matthew Fowler perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 at Wild Rose Moon, 115 N. Michigan St.

Rose’s musical journey was sparked in the Allegheny highlands of Virginia, where she was first exposed to the whimsical mountain ballads of local musicians. As a teenager, she taught herself guitar in her bedroom, mixing her wistful storytelling with the style of old-time Appalachian influences.

Her debut album, 2019’s “Medicine for Living,” drew the attention of Rolling Stone, which praised the title songs as a “swooning, atmospheric ballad” punctuated by her “woozy mountain-woman voice.”

In 2021, she released her dreamy folk-pop sophomore album, “Headwaters.”

Fowler grew up in the deep Floridian south influenced by Bob Dylan and Ryan Adams.

He released his full-length debut LP at age 19 and followed it seven years later with 2021’s “The Grief We Gave Our Mother,” built on deeply personal lyrics and heart-aching melodies. It has amassed more than 4 million streams on Spotify.

The local business Beary's Premium Ice Cream also will be on hand and conducting a contest.

Tickets are $15.
