Fogo de Chão to open Monday in Providence. Here's a look at what to expect.

Fogo de Chão, the restaurant from Brazil, is opening its first location in Providence on Monday, Aug. 28, at Providence Place.

The steakhouse traces its roots back to 1979 in South America. It opened in Porto Alegre, celebrating beef, gauchos and cooking on open flames, churrasco-style. The first one opened in the United States in 1997.

The new restaurant features an open-air churrasco grill in the dining room, where guests can watch Fogo’s gaucho chefs practice the culinary art of churrasco. They butcher and grill a variety of fire-roasted meats including favorites such as Bone-In Ribeye, Lamb Chops and the house specialty, Picanha, the prime part of the top sirloin. Chicken, pork and seafood are all on the menu.

What is the full churrasco experience?

The full churrasco experience is a fixed-price meal that includes premium and classic cuts of meat, plus a seasonal market table of salads and more, Feijoada (Brazil's national dish of Black Bean Stew with sausage served over rice) and Brazilian side dishes. The cost is $62.50. Extra are what they call "Indulgent Cuts" which include a 20-ounce Wagyu New York Strip, carved tableside on a Himalayan salt block; a dry-aged 32-ounce Long Bone Tomahawk Ribeye; and a 24-ounce Wagyu Ribeye.
