Channing Tatum is becoming a 1960s NASA administrator for Apple.

The actor stars alongside Scarlett Johansson, who also executive produces the film, for Apple Original movie “Fly Me to the Moon.” Directed by Greg Berlanti, the feature is set against the 1960s space race, with Johansson playing an ad shark who falls for a by-the-book launch director (Tatum) while he prepares for a mission during the high-stakes backdrop of NASA’s historic moon landing.

Woody Harrelson, Ray Romano, Jim Rash, Nick Dillenburg, Anna Garcia, Noah Robbins, Colin Woodell, Christian Zuber, and Donald Elise Watkins round out the cast.

Rose Gilroy wrote the script based on the story by Bill Kirstein and Keenan Flynn.

Along with actress Johansson, Jonathan Lia, Keenan Flynn, and Sarah Schechter also produce, with Robert J. Dohrmann serving as an executive producer.

The project was first announced in 2022 with the title “Project Artemis.” Jason Bateman was set to direct prior to exiting over creative differences. Johansson’s MCU co-star Chris Evans also dropped out amid scheduling issues for the co-lead role, with Tatum then being cast.

Marvel alum Johansson was supposed to go to space in another film, Alfonso Cuarón‘s “Gravity.” The actress auditioned for the role later occupied by Sandra Bullock for the 2013 film.

Next, Johansson is set to lead Oscar winner Cord Jefferson’s Prime Video series “Just Cause,” based on John Katzenbach’s 1992 novel. Johansson marks her first major television role with the gender-swapped series that follows a Miami reporter who investigates a presumably closed case after receiving a letter from an inmate on death row who swears they are innocent. Johansson actually starred in the film adaptation of the novel when she was 10-year-old in 1995, with Sean Connery playing the lead character.

“Fly Me to the Moon” premieres July 12 in theaters. Check out the trailer below.
