The most popular plastic surgery nationwide is Florida's favorite too. According to Google search data, the most-searched cosmetic surgery in the country and the state is also what surgeons have called the deadliest aesthetic procedure out there.

Brazilian butt lifts, or BBLs have an average monthly search volume of over 20,000, more than double the average monthly search volume for the state's second most-searched cosmetic surgery: the tummy tuck.

Here’s a look at which cosmetic surgeries Floridians are most interested in, according to Google search data collected by Romanian medical journal Med.ro.

What is the most popular plastic surgery in Florida?

Google search volume data showed that the most-commonly searched cosmetic surgeries in Florida are Brazilian butt lifts, or BBLs. This is consistent with national data as well, as BBLs were the most-searched cosmetic surgery in all 50 states.

How long does a BBL last? What is it?

The Brazilian butt lift surgery is popular among women looking for a curvier, hourglass shape in their hips, similar to the iconic Kardashian silhouette. Both Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian were rumored to have gotten the procedure, which gave BBLs a boost in popularity over the last few years.

Other stars, like SZA, have openly admitted to body enhancements like BBLs more recently.

"I treat my butt like a purse. It's just there to enhance whatever else," the singer said in a May cover story with Elle. "And that's why I paid for it, because it works all by itself."

The surgery transfers fat from your stomach, hips, lower back or thighs to your butt to give a dramatic hourglass silhouette. According to WebMD, a BBL can be risky or even fatal but is considered safer than other cosmetic procedures for enhancing your backside.

The surgery yields semi-permanent results that can last for years, sometimes more than a decade. How long results last depends on how you maintain your weight, according to WebMD.

What is the biggest risk of a BBL?

"In surgical circles, the Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is known as the deadliest aesthetic procedure ever performed," according to an April report by medical news company MedPage Today. "And despite several calls to improve outcomes, recent data suggest mortality is only getting worse — especially in South Florida."

According to a 2022 article from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, it looked like the death rate for BBL procedures was as high as one in 3,000.

What are possible complications from a BBL surgery?

These are the possible complications listed by WebMD and Cleveland Clinic:

  • Fat embolization: A condition where fat infiltrates your bloodstream and travels to your heart or lungs, blocking arteries or veins.

  • Infection after surgery

  • Changes to skin sensation, including numbness

  • Loose skin, particularly where liposuction was performed

  • Scarring

  • Bruising

  • Swelling

  • Skin discoloration
