Florida TikTok has spoken: TikToker @OmgItsWicks to host Florida Man Games in February
The Florida Man Games, presented by FloGrown, are coming to St. Augustine next month and tickets are selling out.
Those who go to the games can expect to see teams of Florida men compete in wild competitions like weaponized pool noodle mud dueling, an “evading arrest” obstacle course, a category 5 hurricane winds cash grab and beer belly Florida sumo wrestling.
Here’s what we know about who’s hosting the Florida Man Games, how to preview videos of the teams competing in them and of course, what TikTok has to say about all of this.
Who is hosting the Florida Man Games?
Pete Melfi, festival organizer for the games and founder of The 904 Now, announced in a press release Jan. 9 that Florida-based TikTok and Instagram creator Josh “Wicks” Robinson, or @OmgItsWicks, officially signed on as the host and MC of the games.
The creator is known for his “Only in Florida” videos and has more than 360,000 followers on Instagram and 1.5 million on TikTok.
“Having Wicks hosting & MCing The Florida Man Games was a no-brainer,” Melfi said in the press release. “And it’s awesome to have him on board. He put himself and Florida Man on the map with his ‘What in the Florida?’ comedy. As word of the games spreads, it just gets bigger and better!”
Wicks was born and raised in Southwest Florida and was, in a way, chosen by Floridians to host the games.
He posted a TikTok in response to another user’s video about how proud they are to live in St. Augustine, the city that’s hosting the event.
“Since this announcement was made, I’ve received a bunch of messages and tags telling me that I need to be a part of the Florida Man Games…” Wicks said. “Since y’all felt so strongly about this, (it) happened.”
What are the Florida Man Games?
The Florida Man Games will be held at Francis Field in downtown St. Augustine on Saturday, February 24, beginning at 10 a.m.
The main event will be 16 teams of Florida men – each representing different counties in the state – going head-to-head in competitions like fighting with pool noodles in a massive above ground pool filled with mud and sumo wrestling with a beer in hand.
Who is competing in the Florida Man Games?
There are four teams posted on the Florida Man Games’ website. And yes, they each have absurdly funny, irreverent names and submission videos.
