Florida Thieves Use Tractor Trailers to Steal 4,277 Cases of Alcohol Worth Over $1.6M

Surveillance video revealed three trailers were used to steal from Republic National Distributing Company on July 8, according to reports

Thieves in Florida pulled off a massive heist using tractor trailers at an alcohol distributor, making off with over $1.6 million worth of liquor, according to CNN, ABC 11 and NBC 2.

The burglary took place on July 8 at Republic National Distributing Company south of Tampa in Gibsonton, according to a newly unsealed search warrant obtained by CNN.

The search warrant, which targeted an Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, stated that the thieves took 4,277 cases of liquor from the company, which distributes brands like Franzia Wines and Jose Cuervo, between 4:10 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.

According to CNN, authorities had probable cause to believe that the phone held “specific information, technical data and evidence” that confirmed a burglary, the warrant stated.

The warrant also said that the thieves, labeled as “unknown suspects,” took away digital video recorders that the alcohol distributor used for video surveillance, per the outlet.

Surveillance video from a convenience store and a nearby business helped police identify tractor trailers that were used during the incident, the warrant continued.

Authorities discovered more video from a tractor-trailer storage facility that revealed the three tractor-trailers the suspects used to take the cases of alcohol, per ABC 11.

RNDC is “one of the nation’s leading wholesale beverage alcohol distributors,” according to the company’s website.

Kanchan Kinkade, RNDC vice president of corporate communications, told CNN, “While we are unable to comment at this time because this is an active law enforcement investigation, we have confidence that law enforcement is handling this matter seriously and taking all necessary steps to find the perpetrators of this crime.”
