Florida quarterback Luke Del Rio will miss the rest of the 2017 season after suffering a left shoulder injury in the Gators’ 38-24 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday.

After entering last week against Kentucky and playing quarterback on two late touchdown drives that helped Florida preserve its win streak over the Wildcats, Del Rio got the start on Saturday. But he left in the first half because of the shoulder injury and didn’t return to the field after halftime.

Del Rio, who played in six games in 2016 before injuries cut his season short, found himself behind in Florida’s three-quarterback battle before the 2017 season because he sat out spring practice after having left shoulder surgery. Feleipe Franks got the majority of snaps during the spring and started the Gators’ season-opener vs. Michigan and graduate transfer Malik Zaire also saw time in that game.

Franks replaced Del Rio vs. Vanderbilt.

Del Rio will end the season 9-14 for 74 yards and a touchdown and interception. His completion percentage in that small sample size is the highest on the team. We’ll see if either Franks or Zaire break that mark as the season goes on.
