Florida QB Luke Del Rio forgoing final year of eligibility in 2018
The college career of Florida quarterback Luke Del Rio is coming to a close in 2017.
The former Florida starter said Wednesday that he would pass up a possible sixth year of eligibility in 2018.

Del Rio suffered a left shoulder injury against Vanderbilt — an injury that sidelined him for the rest of the 2017 season. He missed Florida’s spring practices because of an injury to his right shoulder and subsequent surgery.
The right shoulder injury ended his 2016 campaign after six games — a season that also included a knee injury. His absence in spring camp opened the door for quarterback Feleipe Franks to get all of the reps. Franks opened the season as Florida’s starter ahead of Del Rio and Notre Dame graduate transfer Malik Zaire.
With Del Rio out and Franks not seizing the job, Zaire is now the team’s starter.
Del Rio, the son of Oakland Raiders coach Jack Del Rio, started his college career at Alabama. He transferred from Alabama and went to Oregon State in January of 2014. Del Rio then spent the 2014 season with the Beavers (throwing 18 passes) and transferred to Florida where he was eligible in 2016.
