‘Florida Project’ Breakout Valeria Cotto to Star in Fantasy Film ‘Libby’s Dreams’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Valeria Cotto, who debuted in “The Florida Project,” will star in the independent fantasy film “Libby’s Dreams,” with Alexander Garcia producing and directing.

“Libby’s Dreams” is based on a short story Garcia wrote when he was 12. It centers on an imaginative little girl who discovers a portal through her dreams that allows her to transport herself to different worlds and escape the life she has on Earth.

Anne Stimac and Michael Abrams are also producing.

“This story truly inspires the axiom, if we can dream it, we can live it, but most importantly constitutes hope — which this country needs right now,” Garcia told Variety. “The film’s core is about a highly relatable topic in today’s frontier about coping with being bullied and not fitting in.”

In “The Florida Project,” Cotto plays Jancy, the best friend to Brooklynn Prince’s precocious six-year-old Moonee. The movie, directed by Sean Baker, is set during the summer in a community of extended-stay motels near Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.

“The Florida Project” also stars Bria Vinaite as Moonee’s mother and Willem Dafoe as the manager of the Magic Castle Motel. The film received three Gotham Award nominations for best feature, best actor for Dafoe, and breakthrough actor for Prince.

Garcia and Cotto are repped by The Michael Abrams Group.
