Florida Georgia Line and the Chainsmokers Get Nashville Hopping for 2017 CMT Awards

The 2017 CMT Awards, set to air June 7 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, are promising to serve up a whopping — and surprising — evening of multi-genre talent, with a variety of unexpected artist duets and collaborations. One of the most highly anticipated is that of two groups that undoubtedly know how to make a smash hit (or few): Florida Georgia Line and the Chainsmokers.

The pop duo met country pair in true party style prior to their official scheduled appearance at the CMT Awards, offering fans an energetic rooftop performance at FGL House — Florida Georgia Line’s brand-new Nashville bar and restaurant, which opened up June 5.

During a break rehearsing for the awards, the guys all got together again to discuss their synergy. “For us, it’s amazing, these guys are some of our best friends now,” said the Chainsmokers’ Alex Pall. “This is a totally new scene to us that we’ve completely fallen in love with. Nashville’s been a special place for us, just in general with our own fans. Playing a show that we’ve watched but never been a part of because we’re a different genre—that’s amazing.”

“I think this is a unique performance,” added Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard. “It’s something we all got to envision and dream up on our own: Let’s do something different, let’s keep it fresh.”
