Florida’s favorite Christmas movie by search and a list of every other state's favorite

Which holiday movies make your Christmas complete?

Whether you love to laugh at Clark Griswold struggling to navigate chaotic family dynamics, Kevin McAllister booby-trapping his family’s home or Ralphie begging Santa for a Red Ryder BB gun, you probably have a favorite Christmas movie.

And Florida’s favorite Christmas movie this year might surprise you.

TV and film news service Looper took the 100 top-rated Christmas movies list from IMDB, narrowed the list down to only 25 based on which films were most-searched and used Google Trends to find each movie’s popularity in every state from November through December 5, 2023.

Here are America's most-searched Christmas movies this year and where you can stream Florida's favorite.

What is the most popular Christmas movie in Florida?

According to a different study on America’s favorite holiday movies from Hubscore, Florida’s favorite Christmas movie this year is a 2023 holiday rom-com called “EXmas,” followed by “Violent Night,” “Home Alone,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Die Hard.”

This study from Looper found entirely different results, based on Google Trends data from Florida. According to Looper’s research, Florida’s most-popular Christmas movie this year is “Scrooged.” Florida was an outlier in this study, as no other states chose the 1988 retelling of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”

Is 'Scrooged' OK for kids?

Starring Bill Murray, “Scrooged,” is kind of like “A Christmas Carol” and “Ghostbusters” had a baby.

According to Common Sense Media, a nonprofit movie review organization that rates movies based on how appropriate they are for children, the movie is appropriate for children ages 12 and up.

“Parents need to know that this horror-comedy takeoff on Charles Dickens has strong language, violence (bloodless, even with loads of ammunition spent), some sex talk (but nothing really shown), and drinking,” Common Sense’s review says.

“Some disturbing imagery for the very young includes a dusty ghost of the decayed-zombie variety and a tall, creepy, skeletal Ghost of Christmas Future. Jokes about the Kama Sutra and its positions will almost certainly lead to embarrassing questions from young children.”

Is ‘Scrooged’ available for streaming?

“Scrooged” is available to stream for free on Pluto TV, Amazon Prime Video, Sling TV and Paramount plus. It’s available to rent on Apple TV, Vudu and Google Play Movies.
