Florence & the Machine, Mumford & Sons, Snoop Dogg to Headline Colombia’s Estereo Picnic Fest

Florence and the Machine, Mumford & Sons and Snoop Dogg will headline the 2016 edition of Festival Estéreo Pícnic, Colombia’s biggest rock and alternative music festival.

Also confirmed to perform at the fest, taking place March 10-12, are the Flaming Lips, Jack U, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Die Antwoord, Bad Religion, Alabama Shakes and Walk the Moon, among many other English-language acts. The festival will also feature performance by over two dozen Latin alternative acts, including Ximena Sariñana, Francisca Valenzuela and Los Pirañas.

Estéreo Pícnic is produced by Bogota-based promoters T310 | Absent Papa, the same outfit that partnered with Lollapalooza to present the first edition of that festival in Colombia next year.

Although both festivals feature mainly mainstream rock and alternative lineups, they differ in spirit and locale.

“Estéreo Picnic is 18 and over, it takes place outside the city and has always been a big party with liquor and very danceable music,” says Philippe Siegenthaler, co-owner and talent buyer for Absent Papa, which also produces electronic fest Sónar Bogota. “Lollapalooza in Bogota will be all ages and it will take place inside de city. We felt we needed to produce Lollapalooza to complement Estereo Picnic.”

Estéreo Picnic, which takes place a Parque 222 in the outskirts of Bogota,  started as a small, Latin alternative festival in 2010, and by 2013 evolved to feature big name mainstream acts like The Killers. The past two editions of the fest have continued to feature those big names, often alongside big alt Latin names; this year, for example, headliners included Kings of Leon, Calvin Harris and Draco Rosa.

Estereo Picnic’s steady success is impressive because unlike Mexico, Colombia doesn’t have a tradition of brand-name music festivals, much less those featuring big foreign acts. Estereo Picnic’s loyal and growing fanbase no doubt had bearing on Lollapalooza’s decision to enter Colombia and partner with T310 | Absent Papa.

Three-day tickets to the fest range in price from approximately $150 to $200, with the 1,500 early bird tickets already sold out.
