The Floor Renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 at Fox

The Floor hit the ground running… and it’s being rewarded with a multi-season pickup.

The Rob Lowe-hosted game show has been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 at Fox. The news comes less than three months after its Season 1 finale.

The Floor, which premiered Jan. 2, marked Fox’s most-watched Tuesday unscripted debut in more than 13 years. The 10-episode first season averaged 3.5 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating (with Live+7 playback).

Out of all the entertainment programs that Fox has aired this TV season, it ranks No. 3 in total audience (behind The Masked Singer and an NFL-inflated Krapopolis) and trails only Krapopolis in the demo.

“Fans loved the first season of The Floor so much that we’ve ordered two more seasons of this breakthrough game show with plans already underway to make our epic battle of the brains even bigger and bolder,” Michael Thorn, president of the Fox Television Network, said in a statement Sunday. “It’s also been a massive win to have a huge star like Rob Lowe as our host, and both our viewers and competitors can’t wait to see him back in action.”

Lowe, who has also entered a first-look deal with Fox to jointly develop unscripted series, added: “I couldn’t be happier with The Floor phenomenon and the opportunity to create more unscripted projects with my partners at Fox.” (Lowe is also the star of Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star, whose delayed Season 5 will air during the 2024-25 broadcast season.)

Described as a “spectacular battle of the brains,” Season 1 of The Floor saw 81 contestants stand on 81 squares on a massive game show floor, competing for a $250,000 grand prize. In Seasons 2 and 3, “100 contestants will stand their ground on a massive, interactive LED game floor featuring 100 squares, each representing a different trivia category,” according to Fox. “The first challenger, selected at random, must choose one of his or her neighboring opponents to go head-to-head in an epic quiz duel in the opponent’s category. The winner takes over the loser’s square, gaining valuable ground as they expand their territory, while the loser exits the game. The winner must then choose — do they go on the offensive to dominate more of the board? Or do they let The Floor choose a new challenger? The contestant who gains full control over The Floor takes home a life-changing grand prize.”

Season 1 of The Floor wrapped Feb. 27. Three days earlier, it was parodied on NBC’s Saturday Night Live:
