‘Flip or Flop’ Stars Tarek and Christina El Moussa Producing New HGTV Show Together

“Flip or Flop” stars Tarek and Christina El Moussa are teaming up to produce a new HGTV show, Variety has learned.

The new series marks a continuing professional relationship for the “Flip or Flop” co-stars and former couple who are parents to two young children. Last year after a highly publicized domestic altercation, the El Moussas announced their separation after seven years of marriage, but the reality stars are currently in production on Season 7 of their hit HGTV series, which is slated to return at the end of this year.

“It has absolutely been a challenge, and some of it has been truly ridiculous,” Tarek El Moussa tells Variety when asked how he and his ex-wife have been dealing with the heightened media attention since their split. He adds, “I would not wish it on anyone.”

Despite the tabloid press surrounding their lives, El Moussa says that he and Christina are committed to working together and expanding their production company, Sky High Media, which is behind “Chi-Town Flip” and has several other shows in development. El Moussa says the pair plan to develop and produce even more shows in the home-improvement space.

“To be honest, it has been tough. And we have had our moments,” El Moussa says of continuing to work with Christina on “Flip or Flop” and “Chi-Town Flip.” He continues, “But, again, I just keep reminding myself that we are co-parents to two beautiful kids. We owe it to them to be as amicable as we can be. They deserve nothing less…Our number one priority is our kids. We are continuing to work together to be great parents — we are going to work together as parents for the rest of our lives. In business, we are continuing to film ‘Flip or Flop’ and are conducting our real estate seminars together. But, we each have personal projects we are looking into too. We’ll just have to see how things unfold.”

As for “Chi-Town Flip,” which follows a Chicago-based house-flipping couple that met the El Moussas at one of their real estate seminars, El Moussa says that producing is a “totally different” experience then appearing on camera.

“I am really excited about creating new shows, even those that I don’t appear in,” he said. “I’ve always loved venturing out and trying new things and Executive Producing gets me out of my comfort zone, which is great.”

And as for “Flip or Flop,” HGTV’s highest-rated series returns this September with a 20-episode season, after spawning a franchise of spinoffs set in Las Vegas, Atlanta, Fort Worth, Nashville, and Chicago.

So how long do the El Moussas plan to host the mega-hit show? “As long as people still want to watch it and it makes sense to where we are in our lives,” he says.

“Chi-Town Flip” airs this Sunday, Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. on HGTV.
