‘Flip or Flop’ Cancellation Report Is ‘False,’ Insider Says

Breathe easy, “Flip or Flop” fans; Tarek and Christina El Moussa might still be split up, but their popular HGTV show isn’t destined for demolition, despite a recent report.

In Touch reported Wednesday that there are “no plans to film a new season” of “Flip or Flop,” citing a source who said, “They won’t go beyond what they’ve already shot. There will be only the spin-off shows with the new couples in different cities.”

The source added, “Season 7 is their last.”

However, TheWrap contacted two separate sources close to the situation who both threw cold water on the report.

“It’s false,” one source said on Wednesday. Another individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap Wednesday that the series is still in production on its seventh season.

But In Touch’s report doesn’t jibe with what TheWrap has just learned. The report said: “The production company is not shooting Season 8 now, which normally it would be doing if HGTV had plans to air it.”

The series has been an especially hot topic since the El Moussas announced the breakup of their marriage in December. The announcement of the split followed a May incident, during which law enforcement responded to a report of a “possibly suicidal male with a gun.” The call was made after Tarek retrieved a gun from the couple’s Orange County, Calif., home and wandered into Chino Hills State Park.

Tarek told deputies that he headed to the park to “blow off some steam,” and that he brought the gun with him as protection against mountain lions and rattlesnakes.

Tarek El Moussa filed for divorce in January.

“Flip or Flop,” which premiered in 2013, revolves around the El Moussas, real estate agents who buy distressed properties and renovate them.

In a statement to TheWrap following news of the split, HGTV said that the show “will continue production as scheduled.”

“We admire and appreciate Tarek and Christina’s great work on ‘Flip or Flop,'” HGTV said. “When it comes to matters related to their own family, we respect their privacy and honor any decision that works best for them and their children. HGTV is currently airing episodes of ‘Flip or Flop’ and the series will continue production as scheduled.”

In February, HGTV said that it was launching five spinoffs of the show, which will be situated in Chicago, Nashville, Atlanta, Texas and Las Vegas, and are slated to premiere this year and next.
