In 2014, I got lucky. Fresh off a breakup, I hit the renter’s jackpot, securing an affordable, rent-controlled apartment all to myself. It was a studio, but it was a good size, 450 square feet, with great light — and did I mention it was all mine?

One of the flaws of my little apartment (and after ten years it does, indeed, feel little) is that it has no storage space. There is no closet and there is only one drawer in the entire place, and it’s in the kitchen. I’ve done my best with under-bed and under-couch bins, accent tables with drawers, and the limited cabinet space in my bathroom and kitchen, but there is always a skim of things floating around without a place to go.

In my most recent shopping frenzy for storage solutions, I came across a kind of stackable storage bin I’d never seen before. It almost can pass for furniture, with its front double-door opening and textured transparent panels.

After a number of hours of browsing options on Amazon, I’m going with a four-pack of this green option from Sineda in the 8.4-gallon size. I’m going to arrange them two by two in my entryway to create a low console that will house all the odds and ends that never have a place to be.

I really like that the clear plastic is rippled, so you can get an idea of what is inside without the messy look that entirely transparent storage boxes give. And the system is modular, so you can rearrange, add more bins, and even fold the bins down for compact storage when not in use.

Another huge plus for me is the setup: They just snap together. “I’ve never come across anything so simple to put together,” said a shopper who liked that no tools or hardware were required.

“This is the first time in my almost 53 years on this planet I got excited over storage bins,” wrote one reviewer, who explained they relocate yearly for work and were shopping for something that would “make a place feel like a home” but would be easy to move. They said assembly was simple and recommended them for people who aren’t as transient, too. “You can place something on top, it really blends in and has a ton of space.”

While the Sineda Storage Bins aren’t the cheapest option out there, I’ve learned in my decade of small space shopping that it’s worth buying the thing you want and will keep, rather than the cheap eyesore you’ll wind up replacing. Keep reading for more stylish options starting at $36.
