Fleetwood Mac tribute kicks off WIAC Summer Concert Series

The Uptown Music Collective’s tribute to Fleetwood Mac will kick off the Walk In Art Center’s Summer Concert Series on Saturday, May 25.

Each month the WIAC, at 220 Parkway, Schuylkill Haven, will showcase a different music group.

For the Collective, gates open at 5:30 p.m., and the concert starts at 6 p.m. in the WIAC’s outdoor concert space and its new Rutter’s Pavilion in the inner courtyard of the facility at Parkway and West Columbia streets.

Tickets are $30 and include the concert and two pints of Yuengling or non-alcoholic drinks. Food trucks will be on hand, and additional beer will be available for purchase.

It’s a “bring your own lawn chair” event.

The Uptown Music Collective is based in the Williamsport area and features around 20 of the best musicians in the area. The group “deep dives” into various artists or genres and produces four large-scale shows each year which regularly sell out venues, including the 2000-seat Community Arts Center in downtown Williamsport. They performed their Fleetwood Mac show “Rumours and Other Stories” for two nights at the end of April and are bringing it to Schuylkill County.

Already this year, the group has performed “A Decade of Grunge” — music from those ’90s mainstays like The Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Soundgarden and others; “Rattle and Hum” — a tribute to Irish rock; and “It Came from the 80s” — an obvious tribute to the ’80s.

The group will end its 2023-24 season with a perennial favorite, Fleetwood Mac.

They don’t do “look alike” concerts — meaning there won’t be a Stevie Nicks impersonator — but they dive into the style and music of the bands and do it their way.

In May 2021, the group made its first trek to Schuylkill County for a Tribute to Led Zeppelin. Last year, they featured the music of Pink Floyd. Audience members were blown away by the professionalism and talent. Even die-hard Floyd fans couldn’t believe these young people even knew who Pink Floyd was, let alone perform and play with such insight and expression, the Walk In Art Center reports. Last year’s tribute to Queen was also well received.

The concert is open to all, but wrist bands will be required to purchase adult beverages, and IDs will be checked at the gate. There is parking in Evans Delivery’s and WIAC’s additional parking lots and in the municipal parking lot near the Schuylkill Haven train station.

“Rock the Block” is sponsored by M&T Bank, the Zwerling Foundation, D.G. Yuengling and the PA Council on the Arts.
