Flavor Flav delivered a memorable rendition of the national anthem at the Milwaukee Bucks game. On Sunday (Oct. 29), the Hip-Hop great hit center court at Fiserv Forum to sing the much-covered “Star Spangled Banner.” Flav seemingly gave his all as he passionately sang in his nasally register. Toward the song’s end, the hype man even put a little “oomph” on the “home of the brave” lines. However, the performance garnered mixed reactions on X/Twitter.

The Bucks’s official X/Twitter account shared his rendition and called it “flavorful.” Another user gave props to the Public Enemy artist for putting his heart into his arrangement. “You can tell he truly rehearsed this and sang to the best of his ability,” they xweeted. “Love it. So happy for him, go Flav!” Someone else also showed the legend love, albeit with a little confusion.

“I love the spirit of that performance,” the account typed. “He put his lil stank on the ending and I can appreciate that! But how did he even get there?” Other comments found Fergie and Macy Gray catching strays. “Fergie and Macy Gray is somewhere SHAKING,” one account joked. “Not one person is being serious I think it’s still better than Fergie’s tho lol,” another social media user quipped.

On the other hand, some fans were not feeling Flav’s attempt to sing. “This a wild decision to make,” an account shot out. “If that’s supposed to be the national anthem, I’m ready to commit treason,” another person fired off. “This is literally the worst selection for the National Anthem… IN HISTORY,” another account passionately declared.

Flavor Flav caught wind of all the noise surrounding his performance and responded. He took the criticism in stride and offered words of encouragement for people looking to try new things.

“The anthem was a long-time bucket list item, that was fun!” he typed. “I can’t live my life worried about what people might say about me. I won’t let that stop me from trying new things and doing things I wanna do. Some people might not like that. But a sure failure is if you stop trying.”

As for the Milwaukee Bucks, they lost to the Atlanta Hawks 110-127. Heading into game 4 of the 2023/24 NBA season, the Bucks now sit at 1-1 on the year.
