Five fun things to do in Jacksonville this weekend: 'Frozen,' blueberries and live music

Did you miss out on tickets to see "Disney's Frozen" on opening night in Jacksonville? As the lady sings, let it go, because there are other performances and other events going on in this corner of Florida this weekend to keep you plenty busy.

Bostwick Blueberry Festival

Bostwick, Fla., off U.S. 17 between Green Cove Springs and Palatka, isn’t what you’d call a big city, but they know how to throw a blueberry festival, serving up more than a thousand pancake breakfasts to support the community Saturday morning. They’ll have live music all day, blueberry ice cream, blueberry pies for sale, a Blueberry Queen contest and fun stuff for the kids.

If you don’t know the tale of two sisters, a talking snowman and a moose named Sven, you clearly don’t have kids. "Disney's Frozen" opens its 11-show run at the Moran Theater in downtown Jacksonville at 2 p.m. Saturday. Other weekend shows are at 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday, continuing until Sunday, May 4. $55.59-$168.59.

You might not recognize the names of some of the performers at Roscolusa, but you probably know their songs, which have been recorded by Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney, Zach Brown, Tim McGraw and others. The fest gathers songwriters, who talk about their compositions, then play them. Gates at the Nocatee Welcome Center open at 4 p.m. Saturday, music starts at 5. $35-$105.

We’re just about a month out from the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, but the Jacksonville Music Experience and WJCT are getting an early start. Jazz drummer Ulysses Owens Jr. will lead a panel discussion about the history and impact of jazz music. He’ll also lead a jazz jam at the end of the event. It’s at 6 p.m. Saturday at the WJCT Soundstage. Tickets are free, but a $10 donation is requested.

Ritz Voices: We Sing Praise

The Jacksonville-based powerhouse vocal ensemble sings gospel and spiritual favorites, with a special salute to Jacksonville’s Grammy-nominated singer Troy Sneed, who died of Covid in 2020. Showtime is 8 p.m. Saturday at the Ritz Theatre. $25.
