'Fist Fight': Ice Cube Has an Ax to Grind vs. Charlie Day in New Trailer

In Fist Fight, Charlie Day’s weaselly high-school teacher finds himself targeted for payback when a fellow educator (Ice Cube) learns he ratted out his, um, unorthodox (watch out for that ax, kids!) classroom methods to their principal (Breaking Bad’s Dean Norris). Cube’s plan to settle this dispute? An after-school fist fight with Day, in front of the entire student body and staff. If that sounds like the premise for 15 minutes of a film rather than an entire feature-length work, its latest trailer (watch it above) is here to at least show that if the big-budget comedy has to pad its runtime, it’s got an honor roll of funny folks to help it stretch.

In the promo, Day acts like a nervous wimp — calling 911, running for his life — while being pursued by Cube’s menacing “hothead” (see: the aforementioned ax). The trailer suggests the story will be one long, absurd build-up to their eventual schoolyard showdown. Though it makes us wonder how it’ll sustain its comedic momentum, an impressive cast that also includes Jillian Bell, Christina Hendricks, Kumail Nanjiani, Dennis Haysbert, and Tracy Morgan (in his first post-car crash movie performance) will be there to give it their best try.
