Fish fries and seafood around Indianapolis for Lent

February 14 marked Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, which means, among other things, fish fry season. From restaurants to parishes, several spots around Indianapolis will offer all manner of battered seafood for the next six Fridays.

Whether you're Orthodox, Episcopalian, pescatarian or just a bit peckish, here are some places to find fish fries during the Lenten season.

Carmel American Legion Post 155

Where: 852 W. Main St., Carmel

When: 6-8 p.m., every Friday through March 29

Dinner at this veterans organization includes a selection of fried fish, shrimp and chicken — for those with a looser definition of fasting — ranging from $7 to $13 with sides including hush puppies, French fries and coleslaw. Call (317) 846-0001 for more information.

Christ the King Catholic Church

Where: 5884 Crittendon Ave.,

When: 6 p.m. on Feb. 23 and March 8

The meal at Christ the King includes fish, French fries, macaroni and cheese, green beans and rolls. High schoolers and adults eat for $12, kids for $6 and adults 65 or older for $12, with a maximum of $50 per household. Meals come with water or lemonade. Holy Spirit Parish at Geist

Where: 10350 Glaser Way, Fishers

When: 5-7:30 p.m. every Friday through March 22

Each meal at Holy Spirit at Geist's fish fry includes Alaskan fish, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, applesauce, a dinner roll and a cookie. Adult meals cost $12 and kids meals cost $6 when dining in. Only $12 adult meals are available for carry-out and drive-through. Check the parish's Facebook for last-minute updates.

Little Flower Catholic Church

Where: 1401 N. Bosart Ave.

When: 4:30-7 p.m., every Friday through March 22

Little Flower's fish fry features $10 adult meals and $9 senior meals including a choice of fried or baked fish, cheese pizza or soup, plus a dinner roll and a choice of two sides with a drink. Dessert options vary week to week. Children 9 and under can get the same meal with one fewer side for $7. Items can be purchased a la carte, and carry-out is available. MCL Restaurant and Bakery

Where: 3630 S. East St., 6010 E. 10th St. and 6002 Crawfordsville Road

When: Every Friday through March 22, hours vary by location

This Indianapolis-based chain is serving up all-you-care-to-eat fried catfish for $8 for dine-in customers. You can add three shrimp for $4.50. Sides including macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and green beans sold separately.

Our Lady of Grace Noblesville

Where: 9900 E 191st St, Noblesville

When: 4:30-7:00 p.m. every Friday through March 22

Our Lady of Grace's fish fry offers a variety of dine-in and carry-out meals featuring a fried and baked fish, pizza, French fries, baked potato, French fries, applesauce, coleslaw, side salads, rolls and brownies. Meals range from $10-36 depending on the number of items and some are available for pre-order online through Knights of Columbus.

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church

Where: 5333 E. Washington St.

When: 5-7 p.m. on Feb. 16, Feb. 23 and March 8

The Irvington parish will host three fish fries in the first half of Lent. Menu and pricing will be updated on Our Lady of Lourdes' Facebook page.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Where: 14598 Oak Ridge Rd, Carmel, IN

When: 5-7:30 p.m. on Feb. 16, March 1 and March 22

Our Lady of Mount Carmel's all-you-can-eat fish fry features a choice of fried pollock, baked cod, cheese pizza or macaroni and cheese with sides of coleslaw, salad and mac and cheese. Dessert is applesauce and a cookie. Water, lemonade, iced tea and coffee to drink. Guests 13 and older pay $13 for fish and $7 for pizza, while children 6-12 can get fish for $7.50 and pizza for $5. Children under 6 eat free.

Saint Alphonsus Liguori Roman Catholic Church

Where: 1870 W. Oak St., Zionsville

When: 5-8:00 p.m., every Friday through March 22

The Knights of Columbus fish fry at Saint Alphonsus features an adult menu ($7-14) and kids meals ($5) for ages 6-12. Full adult meals ($13; add fried shrimp for $14) include fried fish, coleslaw or applesauce, French fries, a brownie and coffee, iced tea or lemonade. Choosier eaters can eat spaghetti with marinara sauce or butter ($7, $5 for kids' portion) or a fish sandwich with fries ($7). Saint Jude Catholic Church

Where: 5353 McFarland Road

When: 4-7 p.m. on Feb. 16 and March 1

Saint Jude and the Boy Scouts of America Troop 51 will serve up fried fish filets, baked tilapia or grilled cheese with sides of French fries, green beans and macaroni and cheese. Water, lemonade and tea are available to drink. Meals are free, but donations are encouraged.

Saint Luke Catholic Church

Where: 7575 E. Holiday Dr.

When: 5:30-8 p.m. on Feb. 16 and March 1

Saint Luke's gymnasium will feature a Knights of Columbus fish fry with fried or baked fish, grilled cheese, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, green beans, a salad bar and rice. Dine-in and carry-out meals cost $16 for adults and $6 for kids 6-14. Children under 6 eat free. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

Saint Matthew Catholic Church and School

Where: 4100 E. 56th St.

When: 5-7:30 p.m. on Feb. 16, Feb. 23 and March 8

At Saint Matthew, $10 will fetch you a meal with fried pollock, fried shrimp or baked cod, plus a la carte sides and drink options. A family meal serving five costs $45. Learn more on Saint Matthew's website or call (317) 257-4297.

South Paw Soul Kitchen

Where: 3351 Central Ave.

When: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., every Friday

After years of pop-ups featuring regionally renowned gumbo and a hodgepodge of soul food, South Paw opened a brick-and-mortar location in June 2022. The weekly fish fries haven't gone anywhere, with $16 fetching you a plate of battered fish and sides, often spaghetti and coleslaw.
