All the way back in 2020, Netflix announced plans to develop a dramatized miniseries about the life and career of Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna. Nearly four years later, the company has finally shared a trailer and a release window.

The trailer opens on the actor playing Senna in a McLaren MP4/6 at the 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix. As he laps Interlagos, visions of Senna's past play in reflections on the windscreen of his famous yellow helmet. The two minute trailer ends with Senna crossing the line to complete his long-awaited first career win in his home race.

A press release from Netflix says that the show, now down to six episodes from the previously-announced eight, will cover everything from Senna's move to England to his death at Imola 30 years ago Wednesday. The full cast reveals that Alain Prost, Nelson Piquet, James Hunt, and Niki Lauda will be among the drives depicted, along with major F1 figures Frank Williams, Ron Dennis, Jean-Marie Balestre, and Dr. Sid Watkins. Ayrton Senna himself will be played by Brazilian actor Gabriel Leone, who also appeared as racing driver Alfonso de Portago in Michael Mann's Ferrari.

Netflix says that the Senna series is coming at some point "later in 2024," which could be any time in the next eight months. Given how big of a deal the 2010 documentary of the same name was for Formula 1 storytelling, the series could be a fairly big deal for the streamer when it releases.
