First trailer for Oscar-tipped Fox News exposé 'Bombshell' lands

While we might be fairly well sheltered from it in the UK, the world of Fox News and the scandals which have engulfed it in recent years is heading to our shores.

Jay Roach's Bombshell finds the story of Fox News founder Roger Ailes (John Lithgow) and those who accused him of multiple instances of sexual harassment.

Chief among them was news anchor Gretchen Carlsson, played here by Nicole Kidman, who filed the first suit against him in 2016.

Though Ailes, previously a media consultant for three presidents, denied the claims, many other women then came forward with their own accusations, including high profile Fox News star Megyn Kelly, played here by Charlize Theron.

The story of how Ailes was eventually forced to resign – with a $40 million pay off – brings in a dazzling cast, including Margot Robbie, Kate McKinnon, Mark Duplass, Rob Delaney, Allison Janney, Connie Britain, Alice Eve and Malcolm McDowell as Rupert Murdoch.

Oscar buzz is already surrounding the movie, notably Theron's double-take transformation into Kelly.

Following previously political pieces from Meet the Parents director Roach, including 2008's Recount and 2012's Game Change, which charted the rise of Sarah Palin, Bombshell is set to land in the UK on January 24.
